Blue Gin Sour

Blue Gin Sour

The Blue Gin Sour is a perfect balance of theatre and flavour. It’s bright, citrusy and silky-smooth, made with Blue Lake Gin and finished with a soft, foamy top that looks as good as it tastes. It’s a simple cocktail with a little wow factor, and a great way to showcase Australian blue gin in a classic sour format.

Blue Gin Sour Recipe

You'll need:

  • 45 ml Blue Lake Gin
  • 30 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 20 ml sugar syrup
  • Egg white or foam alternative (Aquafaba / Wonderfoam)
  • Ice
  • Fresh lemon slice (to garnish)

How to make it:

  • Add the Blue Lake Gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup and egg white (or foam alternative) to a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Shake hard for around 10 seconds until well chilled and foamy.
  • Strain into a cocktail glass.
  • Allow the foam to settle - the drink will look milky at first, then separate into a vibrant layer with a creamy foam cap.
  • Garnish with a fresh lemon slice and serve.

Why It Works

The sharp citrus from fresh lemon balances perfectly with the clean botanicals of South Australian gin, while the foam adds a smooth, velvety texture. Blue Lake Gin’s natural colour, derived from butterfly pea flower, gives this classic sour a modern, eye-catching twist without affecting flavour.

It’s an elegant, refreshing twist on an old classic, and surprisingly easy to make.
